I saw the lights in the footwell & though 'yep that well lit, but it doesn't quite match what he said. Then I scrolled down a bit more, saw the ground and laughed! Yep, that matches & looks pretty nifty too!

The LEDs themselves would be fine as they are a solid state device. What you need to watch out for is having a good seal around the wiring connections as that is where you will get corrosion & bad connections showing up.
When I worked on avionics systems, we used to spray all the circuit board with what was called 'conformal coating'. Basically a waterproof clear epoxy spray paint. This kept moisture from causing any problems in the electronics since it does get quite cold at altitude (~-40C) and than as the aircraft come down to land, the warm moist air during descent would condense on the chilled components.
So just seal the stuff up & make sure it is reasonably watertight & it will be fine. Also, electronics only have problems with water if they are turned on at the time or left wet. That will cause shorts if they are on & strange behaviour or faults, or if left wet, you get corrosion & this leads to it becoming intermittent & eventually just not working.
