Silly question but can one pull up in a quiet, desolated spot and pitch up there for the night? Say the camp spots are full.
In short yes. Along the main highways there are plenty of rest areas (free camping) with various levels of amenities ranging from none to toilets (& showers i think).

Along the gibb the main campgrounds are large but you still would need to be in before dark (5pm in wa). We did see a few camps on the side of the gibb itself & when speaking it seemed that less popular areas (Adcock gorge) had very few campers

And yes if you can get up there, its great

A few photos of barramundi gorge (maguk).

When we lived in kakadu we used to swim in the pools at the top. Unfortunately, the trail has since been closed so we went in the bottom pool.

We did a day trip to Twin & Jim Jim Falls.

Twin and Jim Jim are approximately 60km off the main road. When we did it the road had recently been graded, hence the first 50km was easy and quick. Also there is a campground at the end of this.

The last 10km isn't hard, but it is slow-ish going along a single vehicle track (there are some pull out areas in case you need to pass).

This track takes you to a T junction. To the right is Twin and to the left is Jim Jim Falls. Both have day facilities including toilets.

You cant swim at Twin due to the risk of crocs, but its well worth to effort to get there and the water crossing (0.8m when we crossed) is lots of fun

Photos are of twin

so the standard silent amour tires have come to an end. have been researching and seeking advice (via various threads) re: various options. see links below:
http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...d.php?t=135142

http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/....php?p=1543859

In short i ended up with Kelly Safari TSR 285/70/17 @ $345 per tire through Andy's Tire Power, Seaford, SA (ask for Brian if your looking for something similar).

i also looked at Nitto Trail Grapplers, Goodyear Duratracs and Mickey Thompsons ATZ (& MTZ). these were all around the $450-$470 fitted and balanced. So the Kellys saved me around $100-$125 per tire for similar quality tire that will suit my needs

have attached a google image of the kelly

will upload some shots of the tires on the JKU once fitted later this week
