I'm about to try the battery trick, if no results I'll remove the plastic stuff with a dremel... that was my first thought when saw that plastic clinch, after that it could be fixed back with a screw.. hope so...

P.S. Any suggestions which one of the boards could have the antenna pin? I think it should be the lower one (on my photo), the upper should be for the knobs or might be also acting as antenna?!?

Today I've unplugged the IOD fuse for 10 mins instead of detaching the battery... nothing with the range, same as before... do you think IOD fuse removal is absolutely the same as detaching the battery?

According to http://www.wjjeeps.com/fuses.htm

The term ignition-off draw identifies a normal condition where power is being drained from the battery with the ignition switch in the Off position. The IOD connector feeds the memory and sleep mode functions for some of the electronic modules in the vehicle as well as various other accessories that require battery current when the ignition switch is in the Off position, including the clock.

To me that suggests IOD would not be the same as removing / disconnecting the battery.

Btw, how did you discharge your capacitors... connecting plus & ground together?

Just make sure battery terminals are not connected (i.e. battery is completely out of the equation). If you don't and connect +ve and -ve together, something seriously will get damaged. Safer option would be to disconnect the battery and leave it disconnected for 20 minutes. Then turn the key to "on". Back to key out and then reconnect the battery.
