That's quite a surprise to be honest.

I'm not convinced yet, despite the evidence. I'm waiting for longer term results.

I remember when I had an injector leaking back too much, the car would pulsate if idling for a minute or so. After adding 200ml of 2-stroke oil it would no longer do it.

I am trying really hard to stay in denial about my need to replace number 4 injector. You are not helping!

Question about number 4...

It was changed just over a year ago. I had a mechanic fit the whole set, but I supplied them. It is now out of warranty, damnit. Having been out recently, I suppose it will not be too hard to wiggle out.

On this basis, is there enough room to wiggle it out without dropping the engine - if I can get it to come without needing a puller?

From my experience, it should come out easily now, unless the mechanic used some strange grease that cooked there.

Sadly I don't know if you can pull it out, as on my old WG the previous owner cut a huge hole above the injectors.

And also sadly I had trouble with an injector that was reconditioned after over a year of use...

Heck, if a bottle of fuel system cleaner fixes it, just run it like that and periodically check the corrections.

4 and 5 need a hole above them if you don't want to drop the engine, only needs to be 50mm and is easy and safe to do. I bought a rubber grommet and used some sealant around it and it's been good since I did the job 54 or 5 years ago.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about doing it, it's much easier that the alternative, I know this because I've done it in the past.

We have a development that might explain things...

My water-in-fuel alarm went off. Last time this happened, it turned out to be a sensor fault. When I got home I drained the filter anyhow. Water! I could feel it on my fingers as I opened the valve. It's not slippery like diesel.

It could be a dose of bad fuel.
