Which lights are out? If the green backing lights, it's just the driver for the fluro - a common problem and easy to fix. If the orange position led, yes, you have a problem.

It's the orange LED. I got some clear plastic coming out but I guess these are just guiding tubes for the light itself. I took it apart again and checked the plate directly without the cover and there is no light at all.
Since they are off and I have obviously a shifter plate issue it also makes sense that the transmission did not come around as it did previously.

Yeah - it looks like that's it. There should be a magnet in the plastic part that moves with the shift lever that tells the board which gear you are in. Is the magnet still there?

Suggest you measure for the 12V supply to the TCM. It comes from the shifter board. That will be the final tell-tail.

I took the board off and measured the plug which comes from the TCM. According to jeepswj.com's tips there must be 12V on pin 1 (+) and 11 (-). In my case I have nothing. need to check what happened here since I am sure that this was ok in the morning when I left our house. The fuse on No 12 is OK.

The shifter board supplies the power to the TCM. Did you measure on the shifter board side of the plug? If so and there's nothing, that's the key indicator that the board it stuffed.

You can start going over it with a magnifying glass but I'd just replace it. There's a bloke in the WJ Australia Facebook group who is quitting WJ's after his second engine detonation (CRD). See if he's interested in selling you one.

Here's an option that popped up in my Facebook feed. Who says they're not monitoring our activity?

Unfortunately, I do not have a Facebook account. However I was biting the bullet and bought the plate off jeepswj.com. If the board of mine failed then there is a good chance that another used one will fail too. And even if the board is still ok then I have at least a spare in case it really happens. I am inclined to get a replacement of all the important electronic parts just in case that something will happen in the future.

Honestly, if I would not have all my suspension parts from the V8 and if I would have known that this car has such a high dependency on electronics, I would not have gotten it. I am big fan of my old w123 Benz Diesel which is all mechanical and no electronics at all. It is simple and even if you break down you will be able to get it going that you at least get home and not get stranded somewhere just because the electronic thinks that there is something wrong.
