Careful, you're borderline on JK bashing and we know where that leads to.

PS: the points you've made in my quote there aren't just JK things...theyre issues which related to ALL manufacturers and ALL turbo diesels. Just thought I'd bring that up as while theyre valid points to touring in a particular vehicle they're certainly not unique.

We love touring with our JK. In the 14 months we have owned it we have clocked up 38K in various trips from the NT down to Albany towing a 5.4mtr Coromal Pioneer off-road poptop. (Tandem axle) My husband has made several mods to the JK including adding a long-range fuel tank. AND the best thing about it all... When we get to our old favorite spots like up the Burrup our JK Rubi is there and ready to climb!!!

Fuel consumption??? around 18 litres / 100 klms - if we get a tail wind or no wind it improves down to 16.5L/100 or better and the worse was 20 when we HAD to go down to Perth from Geraldton straight into the southerlies!!!

red ruby, if you see all those landcruisers and nissan patrols and toyota prados towing vans all round australia, they only get 20 to 25 litres /100 with any decent van on the back out of a diesel!!!! you do quite well.

Thanks - we dont push her too much Its a reasonably heavy van being an off-roader but I tend to "pack light". Back in the "old days" when we often came down to Perth from the Pilbara we would sit on at least 110klms/hr (without trailer) and I could never imagine being happy to chugg along at 80 to 90, but these days...... And yes I have a rear vision camera so I do know if I am causing a problem behind me - I still remember how annoying a slow van can be when you need to be somewhere

Yes it is an Auto Rubicon. Our van is 17ft 6 in the old language so its really not that big (compared with some that you see being hauled around). It tends to look bigger because it has all the off-road running gear and 16" wheels. Trick photography
