Now that I have moved back to Darwin for the next few years, I went out for a little drive with TJDave. We found a little track, with a little bit of mud and water, a little hill and a nice little platform for some poser - oops I mean flex shots. Hope he puts some up later....

Hey Chick thanks for posting that up that has given me an option to rid the old air box. Someone else mentioned using the plenium chamber as an air box but now I know how to do it. I wont quite do what you did, instead I will drill holes in the top.

Default finally I can join the crushed trans cooler line club

Well I now know how people crush their trans cooler lines. I went wheeling at Perin Dunes in St Helens yesterday. Yeer har it was great, although I must say keeping speed up was need but a bugger as well. You see hitting the bottom hard to keep up the speed for the next climb crushed my trans lines. I had my daughter in the car and it was kind of funny. Luckly I was able to call out her mothers boyfriend and he came out with a pipe cutter, some hose, clamps and 4L of DX 3. Fortunatly the XJ only took 2L. I am guessing the last or second last big bump was what did them in. I am just glad I had to air back up in the car park otherwise I may not have noticed until it was too late. But all good trans has survived, it made a hell of a mess underneath though, luckily Chicken Feed was open and I was able to get a few cans of degreaser.

Wont this mean it'll be sucking in ther hottest air in the engine bay AND act as a funnel for any water that should splash over the chamber in a water crossing. To me it initially sounded like a good idea but I dont see any advantages to doing this only disadvantages.

As an example my XJ would ping using the factory inlet (behind the drivers headlight) on a hot day. Putting on a snorkel dropped the temp enough that this didn't happen anymore.

Anyway, interested to see how Billnick and you go with this. Just stay away from water as now it'll drop straight in rather than having to be sucked up.

Cheers
Steve

Hmm somthing I will need to give more thought to. Although I dont plan on doing deep crossings. I might explore the option, maybe trying and rig up a vent system for water crossings. Re the hot air I am going to get some bonnet vents like Marcus so hopefuly it should suck a little cooler air. It does sound like it will take some tweaking to get it all perfect. Thanks for the feedback Steve it has given me something to think about.

Just get a snorkel Tony,i did,nt put one on cause i was planning to lots of water crossings. It,s cause i didn,t wanna hafta turn around when confronted with one.Another plus is driving on the dustiest roads i very rarely get any dust in the paper filter.A minor downside is the snorkel head will grab any vines or branches hangin around, turning the head around while offroad is recomemded. Also if your running LPG you need to run a hose from your airbox to the bottom the converter.
