JK CRD AC Compressor help
My JK 2.8CRD Aircon Compressor make a rattling noise every time it "kicks in". i suppose it is on it's way out. My question: I want to order a replacement compressor from E-Bay as it is a third of the price including shipping and import than what my local dealer charges. Some are just the compressors and then there is also a replacement kit. Which one would I order. I am posting links to both. The aircon is still making cold air, but is very noisy when switched on and the vehicle is idling.

I have checked that it is the correct part number. Thanks in advance.

If you can replace the pulley on the front that will fix it.

Like Midnight mentioned , they can be noisy for a long time. If you decide to change the compressor out, the receiver dryer should also be replaced ,gas evacuated and regassed. The problem I had on the WJ was the Reciever dryer was dealer only for $540 - no kidding ! I chased one up from Rock Autos - US36.50 plus about the same in freight -that's a 500%mark up , if you order a compressor from overseas ,order the receiver dryer with it - often if the front pulley is changed out the compressor and gas has to be removed, if you did them in situ full of gas you would blow the front seal out .We always replaced compressors because of warranty issues along with receiver dryers and new gas -no recycled gas -caused to many contamination issues -should cost around $200 if you supply parts to hook up new compressor , fit receiver dryer , evacuate system add oil and recharge gas & test -$400 if you live in Sydney coz everything cost more !~

Just one thing to check before replacing the AC compressor, Check the belt tensioner first ..........thought mine might be the compressor too , but put a new belt tensioner in (I knew it was on the way out) , and now everything is as quiet as a kitten.....just a though

Thanks guys. Friend of mine tightened the belt tensioner (was a full turn loose) and now it runs a lot quieter. The belt however still makes a small flutter every once in a while when the a/c compressor kicks in.

Fan belts themselves can make some weird noises, a young lady came to me with what her mechanic said was a water pump after having just replaced her alternator, I sprinkled a small amount of water onto the belt and the noise disappeared, I replaced the belt the next day and no noise...
