Hey Kayezy,

Thanks! We've been working hard on this one.

I'll be posting some more info and photos on the Chief WK2 Build thread soon, including how we fit the 33" MTZs.

Cheers,
Bill

The WK2 Lower Front Guard is now available for pre-order!

We've also released an updated version of our WK2 Sump Protection Plate. The Heavy Duty (5mm) version stays exactly the same. The Standard (3mm) version has a few minor changes (we added some polyurethane/steel bushings and adjusted the mounting slots to accommodate). The big news is that we've added a new Access Panel (3mm) version. It incorporates an access panel so V8 WK2 owners can change their oil without having to remove the entire plate.

Cheers,
Bill

Hey Guys,

It's been awhile since I've had the time to jump onto the forums and make a post. The Chief team is growing and that seems to be helping. In fact, this weekend I might even have a bit of time to do some wrenching on the Chief WK2 that's just for fun.

I wanted to give everyone an update on the WK2 Lower Front Guard.

First and most importantly, the WK2 Lower Front Guard is in-stock and ready to be shipped. It took us almost a week to get all of the pre-orders shipped out, but we're now able to ship orders out on the same day.

Second, the Install Instructions have been updated and are now available for download from our website. A big thanks to Bob T. one of our MY12 WK2 customers in Sydney for his tips and notes during his install. We've installed the WK2 Lower Front Guard so many times, it's helpful to get input from someone that is doing it for the first time. He provided some great tips to make solo installation easier and pointed out a few things I had forgotten about the MY12 WK2.

It took us awhile but we also published a 'How To' article for removing & installing the lower front fascia, WK2 LOWER FRONT FASCIA (REMOVAL & INSTALLATION). Once you've done it a few times it's fairly easy, but we get calls regularly from WK2 owners who are attempting it for the first time and would like a bit of advice. Hopefully this helps. If you're interested, we've also made it available as a PDF Download.

I'm happy to announce that the WK2 Lower Front Guard is fully compatible with OEM Tow Hooks. It requires a very slight modification to the Tow Hook mounting bracket, but saves our North American customers from needing to remove their OEM hooks or replacing them with ours.

It took a bit of time but I'm really happy with the final result. We were able to get the fully installed weight all the way down to around 15kg. The design preserves as much approach angle as possible. In fact, on WK2s without the ACC Camera, the approach angle is practically the same as running with nothing installed. Making it all fit behind the lower front fascia was quite a challenge, there's not much room behind there. It fits so well now, that when we took photos of everything installed (including the lower front fascia) you couldn't even see the WK2 Lower Front Guard was installed. Finally we wanted to make sure it would be compatible with older WK2s, USA models with different bumpers as well as a collection of other products. In the end, we were able to deliver on all of those goals. If you get a chance I encourage you to check it out.

The latest photos are now up on our website, but I've also included a few here. We'll be organising an off-road trip towards the end of the month to take some more shots of the WK2 Lower Front Guard in action.

I think that's it for now. If you have any questions, just let me know.

Cheers,
Bill

With the lower air dam removed, would this plate provide as much off-road protection as the plates that come as part of an ARB, Uneek, or ECB bullbar?

Do you think your nudge bar in development will work with front parking sensors?

Thinking through two choices, Chief lower bar and nudge bar keeping more stock appearance and still location for lights and antenna, or bullbar which none seem to have rated recovery points and no information to say if the Chief ones can be fitted with the bullbar or not.

One of the bar manufacturers recently stated they had their attached hooks rated, might have been ARB, I'll have to do some searching.

I'm not happy with any of the choices available at the moment, but Chief are looking at a pre-runner style guard that will permanently replace the lower plastic fascia, and another company doing something is Rhino 4x4, but not sure how long it will take either of these options to be available.

Rhino evolution bar on a holden:

Ok, it was the uneek bar that has had their recovery hooks on the steel bar rated:

If you own, or are looking at purchasing our Steel Bull Bar for the 2011 on Grand Cherokee, you might be interested to know that we have had the tow points rated. They are now rated at 3 tonne each. For customers who already have this bar fitted, we will soon be able to provide a rating sticker on request.
