Yes there's a huge variation in prices - but there is also a huge variation in quality / expertise. DIffs in JK's are highly stressed components when used off road, a crap job will cause problems.
I've lost count of the "you got ripped mate - i only paid $$$" conversations, that ended badly for them down the track, any fool can bolt in a C&P but can they do it properly... the results suggest no.
You'll also notice that DANA don't use shim stacks - just one correctly sized shim and that's what the quality diff builders do as well - grind a single shim to the required thickness. Also whilst they are at it they will fit a solid pinion spacer instead of the flakey crush sleeve to get the pinion preload right and have it stay that way.
So, talk to your diff builder and ask what you get for your money, if its a top dollar job then expect them to justify their costs.
Remember when a cheapie F's up down the track, your on your own.. it will be "your fault mate..."
