Default 2012 WK GC apparently needs a new trans

Just feel the need to vent, so...

As the title says, according to my Jeep dealer, today, my 2012 GC Limited needs a new trans - had the ESC and SERV 4WD lights come on a couple of times, which reset themselves when I stopped/started the engine, so took it in today for them to have a look at.

They've quoted me $20K for a brand new US original - yeah, like that's going to happen - and around $9-10K for a rebuild, which floored me completely.

Without wishing to swear, I'm kinda f^cking annoyed - apparently there have been leaks in the trans cooler lines - given that the car was last serviced by the same dealer, back in Sept last year, I'm amazed at either the rapid deterioration, the fact I don't have huge pools of fluid everywhere (if it was leaking that badly) and/or the fact that they didn't pick any leaks up.

Going home to have a drink....

Geez!. Are those quotes for rebuild directly from a transmission place?

Have a look at thirdparty first, then wreak.

It may be worth offloading it if its just repairable to the point of sale.

I once had a cooler leak which was NOT picked up at a jeep servicing dealer. Was later picked up by another jeep dealer who claimed warranty on it.

Get it looked at by a Transmission specialist, I wouldnt trust the dealers diagnosis or price to repair. Even the service quotes for transmissions are usually double the price and they don’t even flush them properly.

2012 V6 or CRD? That's the 5 speed right?
If so look up

Its a Merc transmission, go to a trans shop that looks after Mercedes.

But before you spend any more money get the codes so you know its actually the transmission not the transfer case or just a sensor.

BlueDriver is a good app for the phone and https://appcar-diagfca.com/en/ is a good one for a windows based laptop.

Never trust what the dealer says.

I'd definitely get a second opinion before I did anything, dealers have been known to replace a lot of expensive parts before telling you that it didn't fix the problem.
Are you experiencing any other issues with the tranny? Rough changes etc. I would think if your transmission needed replacing there would be a few signs other than just some codes.

Definitely get a second opinion, they are a solid gearbox, used in a lot of Chryslers, Jeeps and Mercs. So sourcing one shouldn't be a problem, but get a good transmission shop to have a look.
