Only the lift was engineered, tyres are only 2" bigger than standard (305/70/17). They sidewalls just hang out, but if you stand on one leg and squint a little then they're all good

Hey guys!

Quick question -- I'm wanting to grab some wheels / tyres in the next few days (At least order them) and I don't want to make an expensive mistake.

Ideally, I'm looking for this,

I'll grab the AEV Savegre wheels from Stu at Murchison (Hoping he has some in stock / on their way -- calling tomorrow!).

And then I was considering some Duratracs (SeaComm recommended them and they look great / the business!).

My question is -- What is the best sizing to go with the rims / wheels that won't rub, won't stick out past the stock flares too much (Though I'm not too worried about this TBH -- Cops are pretty lax where I am) but are the widest I can go without any troubles?

Is a 285/70/r17 in the Duratrac the go?

With those wheels and offset aev say u can go up to a 37x12.5 if u want.
If u don't mind side wall sticking out and the whole legal issues 33x12.5 gives a better footprint then the 285/70r17 would

So with those rims I'm pretty much good with any sizing I want?

I'm not too concerned with the legality of it. Though, it depends just how fly in the face of johnny law it would be, I guess -- haha. If it's only a little bit, okay. But if it's a fair bit ..... hmmm. They're relaxed. But now I'm wondering just how relaxed. I see Poo-trolls around here with what look like 4-5 inch lifts and no fender flares or anything ... So, I always just assume my low-key JK will be fine.

Anyone have an idea how much the 33x12.5 would stick out compared to the 285/70r17's?

It'd stick out an extra 15mm roughly
U can use any tire calculator online to see how much further out compared to stock . from memory the aev r 17 x 8.5 +12 and the stock r 17 x 7.5 +44 someone correct me if I'm wrong

Just did the calculation with the above figures and if u get 12.5 wide you'd be 67mm further out compared to stock 245 tyres and with the 285 further out 52mm further out

JGB do you have a lift? I would expect that those big tyres might press up onto your stock flares when suspension is flexing off road, causing damage. I have the stock 245/75/17s and I find my fronts while turned sometimes get very close to the flares off road. Also, I see your point about the relaxed cops, but it's the insurance company that is most important to please. Hopefully you have no need to make a claim, but if you do and the assessor wants to give you a hard time, you may be denied cover because you technically aren't roadworthy at the time of incident.

Ahh, I didn't even think of that. Woops. My missus works for an insurance company too, haha.

I might stick with the duratracs in the 285's, then!

Thanks guys
