Then this afternoon, I put a block of wood under the bonnet & a big sheet of cardboard to keep crap out of the engine. Then I drilled the holes with the battery drill & smallest holesaw. Well 7 of them, then the battery ran out, so I got out the old Sher power drill & did the rest. This thing is older than I am, (it was my father's), & the only replacement it has had is the lead, because the rubber insulation perished! I remembered from installing the AEV snorkel that letting the hole saw get too hot killed it, so I used a little water to keep it cool as I went. It also stopped the filings going everywhere as easily.

So tomorrow, I'll cut the rest out with the angle grinder & start fitting the louver. I also did it with a coat of Dupli-Color Bed Liner, for a matt black textured finish, & did the door hinges at the same time. I puled them all off the doors as they were suffering from electrolytic corrosion & the paint was blistering. Sanded them all right back to bare alloy, then primed them a week or so ago, then did both sides with Bed Liner today. That should sufficiently insulate them & prevent it from reoccurring.

Just a quick tip, when it says doesn't overtighten the bolts as it will bend the metal on the bonnet it really means it!

Also are you planning to remove the bonnet lining all together or cut out?

I'll keep that in mind! I paid attention to where they said to cut carefully, alas though it said you can tell where the braces are by the foam used to stick it to the skin, I found that was not always the case...

The lining came out about 7 years ago... It was mud encrusted from the PO I I couldn't clean it. Also had some damage & was hanging down in places, so out it came. It was also so hot under there, I figured letting the heat get straight to the bonnet might make a marginal difference.

Cut it out & smoothed down the edges, then primed & painted. That's supposed to be flat black, (I ran out of satin black). Threw in a couple of braces where the cut went a bit too deep... Oops.

I now have all the holes drilled, but found the damned fasteners are all imperial. A 3mm allen & 10mm socket sort of work well enough to tighten them up, but one seized while removing them after drilling the pilot holes. It wasn't tight, the nut was half was off when it stuck & reamed out the allen head. Ended up using the grinder to get the little bastard out...

Finished it off, (almost), this morning between 6.30 & 7.30, while the kids were having breakfast. Needs a clean and a couple of longer screws. I decided not to cut the extra holes in the brace to fit the supplied ones, & will use some spacers where necessary.

The problem with doing it this morning is, of course, the carport is on the east side & it was a clear day. And I'm allergic to sunlight... In the few bits of exposure to the early morning sun, this is what I get. Just have to see how long for the

That's why I went with the guard vents. I really wasn't feeling like going through all that

Make sure you get any metal filings/shavings off your paintwork. If you don't, they will rust and embed themselves into your paint. If you don't think you have got them all, grab yourself some detailing clay and mix up some lube (a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid in a spray bottle will do).

Yeah, I hear you. That's why I had it all masked off while I was cutting! Didn't want any hot slivers embedding themselves in the paint. I have a clay bar kit, & will give it a thorough clean as soon as I get the chance.

The rash has now faded 3 hours later, but it will probably take a day or so for the swelling to go down completely...

edit: The paint was ok, the windscreen was a PITA to clean, though that may have been overspray droplets. Went over it with a scraper, clay bar and then Windex. All good now!

Cage Take 2: We weren’t happy with the Genright cage and all the changes and extra tube (and extra weight) we needed to make it work, so out it came...
Knocked out this today with Thomas Wynn-hughes, pretty happy with it. Better seating position, visibility and less chopping of body panels to get it to work. Bit more to go, but main structure done.

Fitted and mostly finished the trail mod flares today. Will grab some pics when I can.

Still need to fix the indicator, trim/install the plastic inner wheel liners and redrill the hole for the rear safety pins as its. It where near lining up.

Jesus it looks odd with stock wheels/tires/front bar
