Default XJ bonnet vent or scoop?

What's the latest poll on effectiveness of releasing under-bonnet engine heat from your XJ?

Bonnet scoop?

or

Bonnet vents?

Scoops look cool, but it might force the air in, instead of letting heat out. I'm leaning towards vents.

Vents for sure! You can fit a pretty large set of vents towards the rear of the hood where all the heat gets pushed to without cutting any structure. Hood scoops don't do much a low speed and being in the middle of the hood you'll have to cut into the structure to make a large enough hole underneath which you can be defected for.

How do you avoid getting engine fumes in the cabin? The air inlet is just behind the vents.

I never had any issues, at highway speeds the higher pressure on the rear of the bonnet forces air into the vents but at low speeds where the vents are the most beneficial the hot air goes pretty much straight up so no issues.
I use the AC pretty much all the time and never had any fumes entering the cab....

Not sure, the only fumes mine makes goes out the exhaust pipe
Seriously I've never had any fumes come through and if there was any they would be very minimal and would get heavily diluted before they made it in. Having said that I don't own a smelly diesel

I used to run a Valiant Charger RT/6 bonnet scoop (reversed) on my last XJ and found it helped quite significantly with under the bonnet temperatures though I had also upgraded the transmission cooler as well.

With my new XJ I didn't go that route adding instead 1/2" spacers under the bonnet rear edge (hinges) to provide a less obvious escape route for that trapped hot air, this week running the A/C I've noted temps stabilizing on a close to 3/4 with 2 thermo fans, since this mod it's now 2/3 and I've yet to finalise on just how much I want to lift the trailing edge.

BTW it gets bloody hot here in Mildura
