Post XJ GM Engine Swap - Who's done it?

Hey guys,

Got a new little project im starting, looking into swapping an LS1 into my old 98 cherokee XJ. It's currently got the VM 2.5TD motor with an immobilizer issue i haven't been able to find a solution to despite the motor being mechanically perfect (so if anyone is interested in a 2.5TD motor for $500 it's theirs). Ill be getting a lot of my parts including engine mounts, radiator, bellhousing adapter, headers etc from an american company called Novak full swap guide available here for those interested. Anyway, just wondering if anyone has done a swap similar to this yet, and am interested in how they went with compliance in Australia?

That is the very first thing I would do before spending a cent is find out if an engineers cert is needed (which it almost certainly is), and make contact with an Approved Certifying Engineer to see what he will expect

A few guys from here have done it, there is a LS1 thread, but just from the list on your attached website, its a major and expensive task

The shitty wiring on these older Chrerokees is a somewhat scary thought for integrating a new powertrain

the 2 v8 xj swaps Ive seen on this site:-
1:- Nakkas did Ls1 you can search for the thread.
2:- Kingxj or Kingyxj did a lexus 4.0 v8 into a diesel, he mated the v8 to the man gearbox. Search that thread to.
Nice vids on both threads.

regards aaron
ps a lot of money and aspirin use for the v8 sound.

SKIM unit doesn't recognize the factory key, have tried multiple roads incluiding having the entire ecu + pcm, SKIM unit, keys and barrel set switched out with no luck and too much mulla was being spent on it so after a year sitting in the carport I've decided to make a project out of it.
