You can get the rules from the land manager's website or by asking them.
In Victoria, if it's the place you're going has National Park at the end of its name, assume that "Firearms, generators and chainsaws are prohibited".

It's because they disturb the wildlife and annoy campers. You might not find them annoying, but if other people didn't, they never would have become an issue.
