I just did a combination of the two a few minutes ago... This thread got me thinking that I never completed the one I was doing. I had bought a longer bolt for the bottom, and searched everywhere to find a plastic wedge like Matt's but to no avail, so I grabbed a strip of 40 x 20mm pine I had laying around and sawed it diagonally to form a wedge. I then tried to get the bottom stud out back then but could not budge it. Recently I bought a set of 1/4 drive sockets on special from Aldi (4mm to 12mm six point + 3/16 to 1/2 6 point) and the 4mm one is a perfect fit on the top of the stud and removed it in seconds.

So I have a half hillbilly upgrade, with a wooden wedge but the stock pedal

Has moved the bottom of pedal about 2/3 of the way from where it was to the level of the brake pedal. Feels a lot better - but havent told the missus so will see if she notices!!

If I like the feel after a while I will continue my search to find a plastic version and upgrade the hillbilly approach I think they are referred to as brickies wedges.

Haha about time Dave, I remember when you first started this mod!!
I thought about just using a 25mm piece of poly block to lift the pedal but so glad I used the wedge. I found it's not just the height that is wrong but the angle is too.
From factory it's already tilted down too far and at full throttle mine was pointing basically straight down. This mean at that spot rather than the ball of my foot being on the pedal it was the front of my toe/shoe!!
Now it's higher and flatter!! Go the wedge you won't believe it took so long to do it!

Thanks guys,
This will be the first mod to my 2012 unlimited.
What are those Yanks thinking????
The worst thing about this mod is that I won’t be able to use my gut to steer any more , but he best thing will be that I am be able to read the Jeep logo on the steering wheel without my glasses .

Normal seating position, here I come...

As a follow up - the missus did not know I had done it and after a week I asked her how it was going on the new run to work (she changed jobs). She said it seemed to be going really well and seemed a lot quicker when overtaking on the highway!

I then told her what I had done and she punched me for not telling her

rj_jk, mine is 20mm thick at the base and 1mm thick at the top. Given its prob just less than half the length of the whole assembly its lifted the bottom of the pedal by around 40mm

Thanks Seacomms, might be a project for this weekend. If this dam rain would let up for a while. Downside to not having a garage.

LOL. Know what you mean. I have one, but it has a boat, a few bikes and the hard top taking up all the space so the work is all done on the drive way too. You will need a 4mm socket to get the stud out, I tried a 4mm spanner on the head with a set of vice grips on the thread and couldnt budge it. Socket got it out in seconds! I left the top stud as it was, since the top of my wedge was only a mm thick, also made it easier to locate the pedal whilst the lower bolt was screwed in. Used a 40mm long 6mm bolt I had lying around. Whilst its working great, I think 25mm would have been better, might loosen the bottom bolt on the weekend if it stops raining and slide something bout 5mm thick under the bottom and see what it does.
