Default Front runner Roof rack 2 door

Hi Guys,

After some real world experience with this roof rack -> http://www.frontrunneroutfitters.com...i-extreme.html

Im looking to run a roof top tent. Probably the ARB Simpson 3.

However, few questions incase anyone can chime in with experience.

How well does it fit with a AEV snorkel? Do you need to get longer bolts for a external piller mounted CB antenna?

Also if you do run it, which tent did you go with?

Im running a 2013 Rubicon 2dr

Cheers

Hey Neo,

I haven't got around to purchasing a rack yet but I've done a fair bit research now there are a few options available.

I reckon the Frontrunner is the best pick because it's the only rack that attaches to structural components of the vehicle; the roll cage and windscreen pillars (the AEV rack bolts to the rollcage, but it isn't full length).

I liked the look of the rhino backbone but i believe flexing of the chassis and roof over time will cause it to come loose.

I wouldn't mind an external cage rack but most of them have side rails that would stop a rooftop tent fitting properly.
The uneek slimline would work well, but is only rated to 180kg static.

As rooftop tents go, I think the hard shell ones will give you the least hassle to put up and collapse. they also require less footprint, if the jeep fits then the tent can be popped up.

The consensus is that James Baroud makes some of the best. They are expensive (in Aus anyway) but they open and close very quickly and you can leave clothes and bedding all inside...and with some models you can chuck a spare tyre on top if required.

I am basing this on looks alone, but I think they would be significantly more aerodynamic than the arb style ones and will probably have less impact on fuel efficiency. I think the hard shell tents would be lighter too.

Maggiolina tents in the same style are also meant to be pretty good

Got to agree with Samft. Done my research as well and I'm now leaning towards a Frontrunner + James Baroud combination.

I've done my research and going for the frontrunner slimline rack 4 dr. It does fit with aev snorkel.
For the pillar mounted CB, you might need longer bolts as I don't know how thick your mount is. But with both things in place, you might as well get a longer one.

RTT, I vote for James Baroud as well thou they are definitely on the expensive side. Otherwise, ARB ones.. but I would wait till they have discount.

Not sure where you're based but there's a caravan and camping show coming up in Perth in Mar. The James Baroud dealer will be there and could get a deal then.

Hey mate. We have the roof rack on our 4 door. It fits fine with the aev Snorkel. Not sure about your bolts for the antenna. We run a kings roof top tent on the rack, it fits with 100mm spare either side of the rack.

Hi Neomut,

I combined the AEV snorkel with a Frontrunner Slimline II on my 2010 2d Rubicon.
It was an easy fit. Only one bolt had to be slightly adapted.
Great combination.
I am now waiting for my long ranger fuel tank. It's on a ship now.
Greetings from the other Side!

Bart
