Thumbs up Towing with my JK Rubicon

Hi Guys, my wife and I have just ordered a new teardrop camper weighs 540 kgs loaded with 40 litres of water ,food and camping gear due to collect in a month or two. Wondering if anyone else has gone this way for camping in Australia, there seems to be plenty overseas doing this with a product called the Little Guy, these are available in australia but not our choice.

We looked a various alternatives, from Jayco Finch campers to creating my own trailer with a rooftop tent for sleeping kind of a chuck wagon idea but we still had the canvas thing going and we wanted something for quick overnight stops(not that we are thinking of robbing banks or anything ). Something whereby we can set up camp have the evening meal on the go and sink a wine or stubbie, shower and sleep all in an hour or two same thing in mornings shower have breakie pack and leave. So the teardrop got the big tick hopefully we have ticked right?:

These seem to be making a come back Cheap and comfortable as well with a surprising amount of room inside. You might need to buy an annexe though. Also, the suspension is fine for on road but not strong enough for serious offroad. The JK will pull it no problem at all.

I tow my camper trailer everywhere with my 3.8L 2011 JK. Mines just under 750kgs so no brakes needed. The JK tows it really well just don't expect to pass anything going up hill. So you will have no problems.

Teardrops really are making a come back, I'm seeing a lot more them now. It's seriously got me thinking about trying to restore an old one for the fun of it.

Yep. Same here. I tow with our 3.6 rubi. Non braked camper, it sits really well behind us. Happily does 100, can even sit on 110 if you like to waste fuel (its a pretty big camper so adds a fair bit of drag)

While its obviously not a rocket, its far from a slouch with it nack there. Id say with a tear drop you would hardly notice it

You'll be fine, but you can forget about a shower at night and morning.

Thanks guys for the extremely positve responses it's taken time as I said to make the choice. I'll submit photos of the setup and mention any problems we may have after our first couple of trips. The builder is prepared to alter the chassis so as to fit Jeep wheels and tyres, could be helpful? Along with the fitting of a larger fridge in the galley area, and a number of other alterations as we move along with the build.

Cheers ZIP.

It would look the part with Jeep wheels and it would mean that you could get away with not having to carry a spare on the trailer which would save a bit of weight.
