Default Essential Spares for Touring

Hi all,

It's landed in Melbourne and I expect to take delivery in 3 weeks time.

Then off to FNQ ..... and across to Darwin and Broome later on.

I (will) have the 3.6 petrol Overland with ORAII and was wondering what would be good to take as essential spares (as I often read that spare parts are difficult to find in remote Australia).

Does anyone have a handy list of parts and numbers which I should pack away, please.

I already have Max Trax, compressor, tyre repair kit, Super mini battery booster, shovel, UHF, roof rack, recovery pack, and JA front recovery point ......BUT now I need to turn my mind to spares

Thanks guys ....

Regards

Rob

Spare: Belts (all of them ) , radiator hoses top and bottom , filters ( air , oil and fuel ) , the normal assortment of fuses for your car ......and if you are planning crossing deep water you may want to fit a snorkel and get a car bra .......

The snorkel will also help immensely to keep the air filter clean on all those dusty dirt roads you are planning to travel ........

sorry .....do not have part numbers .......

UHF is useless in remote areas. HF is the go. Sat phone even better.
A few rolls of insulation tape is smart. You can always tape up a damaged hose to get you on the move to the next big town. A cartridge of silicone is good for repairing a damaged radiator. A lump of soap will plug a hole in a petrol tank. Spare fluids is important ~ brake fluid, coolant, trans & engine oil. Tie wire & zip ties are useful if something is loose & trying to fall off.
Make sure you loosen & re-tighten all when nuts before the trip. That way should you get a flat, you will know that you can get the nuts undone. One of those u-fixit windscreen repair things is handy, it lets you fix a small crack before it grows overnight.
You are brave taking a brand new one on your trip. Maybe the drive to QLD will be enough to get the bugs out. make sure you lift the bonnet each time you fill up & have a good look for problems.
A list of every good Jeep mechanic along the route maybe handy.
Good Luck !

In terms of your trip itinerary, it looks like a lot will be on bitumen which means perhaps a re-think about spares. Make sure you have a set of TORX drivers. A 18V battery drill is always a handy thing to have. And Long sockets that will fit your vehicle (imperial and metric r used on JKs).
