Even though i have rebuilt the distributor, i believe that i need a backup one for the future.
When it was chirping, i went into full research mode and looked at alternatives.
There are basically two alternatives.
Go for a cheaper model like Spectra, Cardone, WPS, Omix-ada, Crown etc...or go for a super expensive model like MSD at over $350 USD.
You cannot get Mopar anymore as they are not made. In fact, Mopar did not make distributors for the 1995 XJ Cherokee. A company called Sagem made them (check out the sticker on the side of most OEM distributors). Sagem stopped making distributors years ago, hence you cannot buy an original new one with part number 56027028.
All the cheap ones are made in China (no problem with that), but can have quality issues.
Anyway, on my search through Ebay USA, a guy was spruiking a genuine Sagem 56027028 ex government distributor. It is brand new but does not look genuine. I offered him $25 USD and the offer was accepted. Whether it is genuine or not, a brand new spare distributor for that price (and cheap shipping too) was worth it to me.
Happy hunting.
Cheers,
