I had bighorns on my previous vehicle. Yes, they are noisy, although I thought they handled ok on road. I would not hesitate to get them as a single set again, and I will do so soon. Of course, any MT tyre doesn;t compare to HT or AT on road.

As TCF said, they're not too bad for an MT. A bit noisier and a bit more sidewall flex than the ATs. If I only had one set I'd probably just run the Bighorns but I'm a tightarse and don't want to throw away two perfectly good sets of tyres (the rims that I bought off the forum came with 255s with only 10k on them). This way I won't need to buy tyres for at least five or six years.

I am still to decide between 17" Maxxis AT 771; Toyo; and the Goodyear Wrangler. The Maxxis are appealling at $235 but are they any good or are they chalk and cheese compared to the other two. Any suggestions.

I've only had mine out a couple of times and so far I'm happy with them. They seem to perform the same or a little better than the Nankang Mudstars that I had on my Patrol. I've got two mates with Goodyear MTRs and they were really prone to chipping although I've heard that the kevlars are a bit more durable. Both these guys now run Mudstars.

Are you buying the 771 for offroad or just around town? I would not touch it for offroad, I had it on my previous vehicle and as the photo shows, they are no good offroad. Only upside is the price - if its just for around town, go for it!
