This is why I love forums.....new theories

its a commonly mentioned factoid on the other JK forums that significantly larger tyres than standard very regularly mask DW.

I'm going to put the 305's back on on the weekend and do the same drive and I bet my left arm it won't budge an inch!!
Yeah what I'm saying is castor is the only thing that wouldn't be effected with the wheel/tyre change but nearly EVERY other alignment factor can be changed/effected by flipping back to the smaller wheels and tyres! Still though, I think there is more to it than angles ie alignment can kick of a dw but it's the worn or loose parts that keep it there.
Happy to discuss or have a look at it if you want just msg or ring.
Matt

Not a theory yet, Yom, that needs evidence to prove it. Merely a humble hypothesis!

I hadn't run into that on any of the others I have read. But good to know my hypothesis has some anecdotal evidence though!

Another theory for you. Running 305's on 4.5 in backspace will increase track significantly and also increase load on ball joints, increasing wear on the stock internal plastic sleeves. The load from the wider stance could keep enough pressure on them to keep them still, just increasing the camber.

Swapping to the stock wheels brings the load way back in, allowing the balljoints to now move when you hit a bump. Just a thought...

I just fitted the PPM synergy ball joints on the diff housing.

Wow..what a difference. Old ball joints weren't overly sad but the lowers were worn the most. Only done 10,000km since being fitted.
