Default SRT Blowing up

Hello i have a question from my brother who is on the market for a 2015 SRT.

He has been told that the SRT with the speed revs to low and it starves the motor of oil as the pump isn't turning fast enough, is this the case?

He decided against one for this reason, but then was told by someone else that they upgraded the oil pumps and he just has to make sure this was done.
is this true, how do you find out if its upgraded?

Thank in advance and hopefully soon there will be a new member on here.

There are numerous threads talking of oil starvation causing cam failures on the hemi engine, but it is reported as a engine design fault that causes not enough lubrication.
It appears to be a industry problem, as there are lot of unhappy Chevy LS Motor owners suffering a very similar problem.
Plenty of utube vids on the subject.

I can't help thinking the obsession with lighter and lighter grades of engine oil might have a bearing on these ills.

If it’s -

1. Got a service record from new
2. Oil pressure gauge / engine codes are ok
3. Still alive and runs good after 5 - 6 years

Then I would not consider it anymore of a risk than a secondhand Toyota Corolla. Got to be the ‘right’ price of course !

Right at the monent there is a facebook page SRT/Trackhawk Australia page re lifters failing in new SRTs 3000 ks up to 130000 for no good reason other than poor quality parts ,bad engine design etc even oil may come into the equation. Good Service records appear to make no difference. Two guys in Aust are about to start legal action re this problem which FCA has ignored for years They have started a private facebook link re this problem and have many owners joining in Aust ,At least one a day. This is a massive problem in US.Even near new Rams here with the hemi motor getting the lifter failure.I have a 60000 k as new SRT and follow this with interest.PS The price of these has SRTs have gone up around $10000.00 since I started looking a year ago. There appears to be no current fix ,Even new crate motors are failing.Engine rebuilders Eg Dontex in Melbourne specialise in rebuilding these hemis. No new oil pump. However whether their motors are still ok when reaching the failure ks of 50000ks on will be interesting.4 out of 10 I looked at had had rebuilds ornew engines fitted. ! The SRT is a great ride ,however its like playing russian roulette everytime you start it up.

That's totally incorrect, whoever told him that was channeling the chevy guys issues.

As above the oil pump was never the issue.
The issue they are known for is the lifter failure issue. First thing you need to decide is if it actually is an issue to you. Failures depending on where you source your numbers from, only effect 5 percent or less. Then when you take into consideration the literally hundreds of thousands of these engines fit to all the different models including the ram and it's sister engine the 5.7 the problem is not that much more significant than most engine manufacturers of one make or another.

That's a lot closer to the mark imo
