Default Oil temperature

Just come back from a run up to Tamworth for the CMF, once again, top turn out.
Noticed my engine oil temp was sitting around 94'c @105kph 32'c outside amb temp, but would spike to 102'c climbing up over the dividing range, transmission temp normally sits on 90-92 but it rose to 96'c, once over the the range and rolling down the other side it dropped back to normal very quick, just curious what other players oil temps are in comparison, at one stage when we stopped for a toilet break, I was tempted to remove both engine and trans material shields from underneath to allow some cooling air to blow across both of their oil pans as I feel these are both acting as a huge heat sink, water temp stayed where it always runs, interested in others thoughts , Met up with Ol Chad Morgan again, Ol bugger still going, cheers all

Those temperatures are normal summer time mate. I wouldn't worry.

I wish my temps were that good. Oil usually sits anywhere above 100c, usually at least 105c with normal driving. Stop start city work will always see well over 100c.

Towing is a whole new ball game, I have seen 122c oil temp on longer climbs. Even on the Motorway towing at 110kmh I am seeing 120c oil temp.
...and I do know of others when towing have seen the oil temp pushing 138c!

You definitely want the oil to get to at least 100c to burn off any condensation and diesel in the oil anyway...

Looks normal to me Olmate and when I'm towing the tranny on long slope/climbs may get to 95/96, other wise it will roam the 87/91, engine oil normally runs between 96 and 105 depending on ambient temps, may get to 110/115 when towing, has got to 126 once when I was doing a towing hill climb test when I first got it but I was putting the boot in... My coolant floats aorund the 96-106 I think.
So many things in driving style, tyres, road and foot change things.

Van is not a light weight and I don't tootle along either but I may pre select gear shift but not often with this box but it all about revs and right foot harmony......

Haven't seen Chad since I moved up here from the Toowoomba district.

Just a bit of feedback in regard to engine/trans temp.
Today we were heading out, so I removed the Engine and Transmission covers.

Once again 30'c amb outside temperature, sat on 105kph on expressway. Even with sump cover off. engine temp was 94'c, yet the Trans was lucky to get over 71'c and took a little longer to get to that temp, and then settled down to around 74'c. One aspect I did notice with the trans was when we got home was the transmission cooler lines coming out of the trans were cool to touch, both of them as I grabbed hold of each one to see if I could notice if one was cooler than the other, but they were both as cool as each other, so obviously the trans didnt reach its ideal operating temp to allow the automatic transmission thermostatic valve to open and allow the fluid to pass through the cooler, also the pan was also quite cool compared to other auto vehicles I've owned where the bloody hot pan would burn your hand, so back on they went

I took my engine ocver off ages ago and never replaced it, figured it has to help the old girl cool a little bit. Heading up north on boxing day and coming back the next day it was 44*C, sitting on a dollar 10 on the highway, a/c and cooled seats going flat out, engine temp sat around the 90-95 mark and trans temp sat around the 75 mark from memory (5 spd).
I didn't have Torque running so didn't see the oil temp

My '07 WK with 5.7 Hemi engine oil temp runs at about 200-210*F (93-99*C) and trans fluid temp 145-160F* (63-71*C), just hooked up my fancy new Autel scanner to it, but this is at ambient temps of 45*F so I'm sure summer temps will be a bit higher here (we don't get as hot as Australia but can reach 95-100*F (35-38*C) mid to late summer).
