Unhappy HELP! Looking for Jeep mechanic in Adelaide! Have had TERRIBLE luck so far :-(

Hi All, I am looking for some recommendations for getting my Jeep Cherokee 2007 fixed in Adelaide.

I have had the WORST WORST service ever from the main dealer.... (hi-lights include having it 6 times without fixing the same thing, rude service, and then promising to have it done but forgetting to leave it out to collect, them going home for the long weekend with it being locked inside leaving my partner stranded and me being stuck without a car over the long weekend!! among other things)

I have rang a couple of other Jeep dealerships but the never pick up the phone. Anyone know of a good honest Jeep mechanic with the right computer to diagnose problems? My engine light is on atm and I have check all the basic things and car is driving fine... I am a bit stuck as I really need the car for work!

Many thanks for any suggestions!

If the engine light is steady on & orange in colour it is perfectly fine to still drive, it only indicates something needs attention at the next service.

If it is RED or flashing then that's different & I would call a tow truck.

Did the dealer give you any indication of what they think is the problem?

Is yours a diesel or petrol?

May I suggest you buy your own scan tool like http://www.lemurmonitors.com/. Blue Driver has had great success reading Jeep codes.
Its a small investment even if you aren't mechanically minded, knowing the code is half way there to fixing the problem.

Buy an obd reader. You should be able to get one for under $20. Try deal extreme or aliexpress. You can then determine what is wrong with it yourself. They aren't difficult to use and there are plenty of people on here willing to help you diagnose problems if you put in a little effort yourself.

Dealerships can be terrible but I find it hard to believe that they don't answer their phones.....

Smile Thank you!

Hi thanks so much for your replys,
So very helpful, I had no idea it was that cheap to buy one of those computer obd things. I feel like it will help me to not get ripped off if I have a bit of knowledge of what the codes actually are and can look them up. My car is around 10 years old (the cute little cherokee with the round lights) and I love it.
Below is the link to an OBD which I thought looked good to try an it is from Australia, not off shore. Will this be suitable for a Jeep Cherokee of that model does anyone know?

Then at least I can get an idea of what is going on I think I must have rung the service departments at a very busy time this morning (around 9.30) I have left messages but not heard anything back so far today :-/

Thanks everybody, I really appreciate it!

Yes that one should be fine. They can be a bit hit and miss but it's not like you are spending hundreds of dollars. You also need a smart phone with Bluetooth and an app like torque.

Being petrol is in your favor, most workshop's can read codes from a petrol.

Maybe a Mercedes Benz dealer or specialist can help as Merc owned half of Jeep when your Cherokee was built & a lot of there tech was used on them.

Good luck
