Default Straight pipe

has anyone in aus done this?

i am thinling of only deleting muffler and having a straight pipe conect it to the rest of the tailpipe.

according to naxja it is louder but not obscene.

i am going to try it in the cming fortnight, i will let everyone know

I got 21/2" straight through with a performance muffler. Any louder and it would be cop bait.

I had an exhaust joint fit a straight through pipe (deleting the rear resonator/muffler) on my VH back in the 90's, it's wasn't overly loud (though it did sound nicer idling) until you got up in the rev range a bit, I'd suggest the XJ would be a similar situation where you "could" avoid unwanted attention by not hitting the loud peddle too hard and just cruise around town

Anitferret - I'd be most interested in your findings/outcome

hey i recently got 21/2 inch all the way through and a high flow muffler , after i had an LPG explosion and it blew up my muffler and some more!!!! scarey !. after this it seems i ve lost about 10 per cent of power and turned it into noise .. which is cool but i want my power back !! . i ve also got banks headers too.. i asked a mechanical engineer and a regular down the road mechanic, the same question " does a 4 stoke need back pressure " the mechanic said no only 2 stokes do, and the uni grad engineer said yes both 2 and 4 stokes need back pressure,, the engineer is right ..

Back pressure is important, till you go forced induction(turbo/supercharger) then less (back)pressure is better.
with naturally aspirated engines Back pressure is all about extractor design. I have wild cat extractors, but there are other designs out there.
