Default Camping @ Fraser Island

Which is the best campsite to stay at during our trip to Fraser over Xmas? Was thinking of staying at Central Station?

Any recommendations?

If you're happy to dig your own toilet I would strongly suggest staying on the beach.

Campsites near Maheno Wreck are a good central location if you plan to see/drive the whole island. Fishing week with the boys and dont want people? Go north of Orchid Beach.

Need toilet/shower facalities for the family? Dundubara for national Park, Catherdral has a private campsite. Want to camp on the beach, but still be near facalities, one of the beach sites near Dundubara. Both of these are a little far north, which means a longer drive down to the Lakes etc.

I dont like the inland camping sites, but there are a few ok ones of those too. I've never stayed at Central station, always take the bypass as I drive past it.

Depending on What you are wishing to do on the Island will depend on where you wish to camp, I have camped on beach and taken Toilet and showers with. Then you can stay in the designated camp sites ie/ Cathedral Beach Caravan Park has toilets and shower plus fuel/shop and is a short walk to beach.
Then there is a national park camp site at Waddy Point with Pay showers and toilets.
Again there is beach sites at waddy with toilet and you can drive up and use the pay showers. If you stay at waddy you have to drive back down to go through to the lakes rainforests etc. But there is lots of things to do at the top end of the Island also. What was your intentions or expectations of what you where hopping to do / see on the Island ? this may have bearing on where you wish to stay.

It'll have to be somewhere i can take a family, so toilets and showers (for the missus) are a must. Preferably with decent shade. It'll prob be Cathedral Beach or Central Station just because of the amenities there and they look like good spots for young kids.

Cathedral Beach would be better then Central station to stay at but do a drive in for a day trip and check out Central station rainforests and lakes.
Plenty to see and do.
Middle Rock champagne pools

Central station Board Walk

Maheno Ship wreck what's left.

Lake Mackenzie is also a must see would have to look for Photo.
