Short arm geometry mods
Hey guys under the Jeep today got me thinking about the thread on rear steer issues and the front end issues. We've seen drop boxes work to address the control arm angles but of course they are a very obvious mod. This got me thinking about a landcruiser mod. The 80 series guys with bigger lifts put in the offset castor bushes but of course these can only go to a certain size. To go a bit further there is a weld on washer if you like that looks simply like a weld on to fix a flogged out hole, however it actaully allows the pivot point to move a whole hole away which gives them the extra castor they need. The plate has the new hole in the right spot and a little locating disk welded on that locates and blocks the original hole. You bolt one on either side get your alignment set to where you want it then weld the tabs in place to lock the position. When installed they just look like braces or supports to fix the hole.
SO I'm wondering how much change it would make to the WJ if we did the same - move the diff holes up and the body mount holes down. I know this is not huge but we are talking about 15mm in each direction so about a 30mm change. Any comments and thoughts on what effect this change would have in the real world. I know it's not a total solution but it's a fairly easy one and one that would not attract much attention and with the aftemarket short arms just might be enough to make a notable difference. Given there are weld on kits to strengthen the front mounts anyway then it is just an extension of that idea and gives the added benefit of the strengthening as well.
