* Thermo fan (with manual override) this reduces weight and resistance on the crankshaft
* Upgrade auxiliary transmission cooler (add a temperature sensor & gauge) think of it as an investment in piece of mind
If I was starting again this is exactly where I'd spend my money first, aside from general service items.

Also keep your eyes peeled in the for sale section for good second hand tyres, better on your cash flow than buying new if needed.

Disconnects are also the first port of call after this for best value offroad IMO.

I don't know anything about fabbing, but when i got my sport i started small:
*a new cat that didn't rattle
Then side steps ($100) and a snorkle ($100) and 96' Grand Cherokee Laredo rims from the wreckers ($200),

then a cargo barrier ($200)
Alloy bar ($200)
Swing away wheel carrier ($200)

Gabriel Foam-cell shocks ($280)
New thermostat and rocker cover gasket, replaced my radiator with an Adrad model, wired up auxiliary thermo-fan, wired up headlight Loom upgrade (PRIORITY JOB)! and Narva driving lights.
Installed Bonnet vent,
fixed driver's side engine mount.
Put in VT Commodore injectors and bored throttle body,

Made coil spacers from a cutting board, got a load leaf from a Ford ute into my rear pack (for an extra 1.5 inch lift rear, 1 inch front)

Bought a roof rack/cage second-hand.
Dropped driver's seat back 2 inches

Done all sorts of other crap too, but too numerous to remember. and i consider my beast to be pretty stock.
It's amazing where the cash goes when you get started. You had better start saving and put an extra 0 on the end of that $500, because you are going to need that at least!

From a bloke who was wrecking a jeep on ebay.
He wanted $1000 and i messaged him and told him if he didn't get it i would take the alloy bar for $200, the cargo barrier for $200, and the tyre carrier for $200.

Cost me another $200 to freight it up from the ACT, and i think i still came out ahead by a mile in the wash-up.
