Default 96 engine obd2

is a 96 grand cherokee motor
the same as a 96 xj cherokee mine is geting very tyred
and found a 96 grand cherokee engine with low ks
also are the automatics interchangeable i know the transfer case is diferant
only have hi low in the grand but is the auto the same box and does my transfer bolt up

Have you tried posting this in the grand section? someone must have swapped an engine between a zg and a xj

The auto is different (i think the grand may have run the aw4 for one year only in 94 or something). The grand cherokee auto transmission is also pretty rubbish from what I've read.

the block is the same the gear boxes are different the Xj box is slightly smaller. Just looking at them sitting here side by side. Mounts look to be slightly different positions, but its dark so can't see to much.

thanks for this guys got my hands on a 96 grand with only140ks on the clock motor should be like new any more info keep it coming i know there will be a lot of acc to swap over but have the time to do it cheers dazz

Dazza, I have fitted a 96 OBD2 Zg engine into my 95 OBD1 Xj, the engines are the same for the same year model so it will be identical to your existing engine, just use all your existing bracketry for the fan etc.
The autos aren't interchangable and as you already the 249 transfer case is different and will most likely have a stuffed viscous coupling anyway.
If you need to know any more info about the Zg parts you know where I am....
