Default CRD replacement battery

Hi guys and gals.
Got a CRD auto that's been sitting around for a while and the factory yellow top has shat itself.

What model Optima (aftermarket, not the one factory fitted) is the best (reads largest) that fits?

Hi mate the factory Optima yellow top batteries fitted standard are a "cheaper" version (apparently) of the D34 Optima Yellow Top. If you get one of the "real" ones you will find that it will perform better than the standard factory one.

But, there are many many alternatives as well.

Depending on what gear you have fitted (or about to fit) it may pay to keep an eye on the CCA rating on whatever you buy. It might also be a great time to think about putting together a dual battery system if you have lots of gear to run.

any battery shop can supply the D34 for about $450, less than the $800 the dealers ask. the D34 is a very large capacity battery and lastmuch longer than the one fitted as original equipment. don't know whatthe problem is with the batteries factory fitted but they are absolute crap. but the aftermarket one is bigger and lasts.

No it doesn't. I have been thru 1 original battery and 3 aftermarket battery's in 4 years 110,000k. The aftermarket one is bigger but I wouldn't say it was better.

Overcharging seems to be an issue with diesel JK's.

A friend has had numerous replacements fitted by the dealer who eventually even changed the ECU The "best" example swelled up so much that it split its case.

Interestingly his problem hasn't reocurred so.....

As an asside the Petrol batteries are absolute crap - you can just about hear the little internal failure clock ticking down.

Yeah, I have bonnet vents and a grinder ready for the heat issue.
Mine undercharges, so happy days!

Is a D34/78 any good? I can get them for $325.
