I have a Unimig Procraft which is gas or gasless, it does most most the welding I need to do on the farm. Come to think of it, the old stick welder hasn't been used in years.
I got a spot welding attachment for it which is great for car body panels.

One thing I noticed about mig's is it's not too hard to kink the inner sleeve of the hand piece cable, if left attached to the unit in the shed

So good idea is disconnect cable when not in use,
I have kink mine by bumping into it while moving stuff in the shed, wire feed is a biatch now, I must replace the inner 1 day.
pretty sure its easy to replace and not too expense

Make sure when you get one, what ever brand, get them to throw in some spare tips and another end shroud, and get the spot welding shroud ( which is just a end shroud with 2 little 2 feet on the end of it)

I got mine from a place called Gentronics in Kewdale whelshpool area
I bought a 17cfm compressor at the same time and they threw in a few extras with in, like helmet gloves, another roll of general purpose wire etc

What do you guys prefer, gas or gasless?

I have used both and find the gas is better.

Thoughts?

Gas all the way.
Ian,
one thing to remember is 3phase welders can often be purchased second hand MUCH cheaper as the average punter can't plug them in...... places like grays and other instrustrial liquidators can have some bargins - might help offset the $$

Thanks for the help guys.

I have been tossing up between the CIG and the UNImig... and today is the big day! I havent heard anyone say anyting bad about the CIG... but a few people tell me you can have dramas with the UNI's... So i think the CIG wins. Im definately getting the 250.. and the quote I have been given from Malaga Welding is $1800.

I will be running her on Gas too... as Gasless is a pain in the bum
