Default Towing with wk2 petrol pentastar

Hi guys,
I have the wk2 pentastar petrol grand Cherokee and was looking at towing a 1500kg camper trailer.
I know it's within the limits (brakes), though has anyone else done this with the petrol, all I see online is the diesel variant.
Cheers, paul

Hi PVR,

My 3.6 petrol Overland towed a 2.2tonne 16ft Jaco around Australia (18,000km) in 2015 without a worry and that was in temps from zero to 35+

I have the 8 speed and averaged 17.1l/100km with the van attached. That was 50,000kms ago.

I didn't have a WDH as I have air suspension.

Depending on your model you may be limited to 2.2 T or 2.8T max. But 1.5T is well within the limits of the 3.6 petrol.

Please note ....... the warranty handbook says that if you are towing then you should change the oil every 6,000kms. Cost around $140 at Broome (no change of filter though)

Regards

Rob

The 8 speed takes it up to 2812kg on the petrol v6.

Thanks rob.

Yeah I read the manual and picked up on the oil, thanks for that.

Also good to hear about towing the jayco, I've got the 5 speed so that would have been at my limit. Just never really hear about the petrol towing. Good to hear it managed it well.
I'd suspect mine might struggle up the hills a bit. I do have he quadra lift suspension though. Thanks

Interesting thread to me as we are about to upgrade to a 2016-2017 and the diesel is a bit above our budget. We will be towing a jayco wind up around the 1.5 ton mark and am coming from a 4.7 Wh. I am just a bit concerned about the lower torque number so has anyone here moved from the 4.7 to the 3.6 with the 8 speed?

If I had my time again I would have gone the diesel so I didn't have to feel it st all.
