Default Power steering reservoir hose

I noticed I had a bit of an oil leak starting and traced it back to the p/s reservoir.

There's a hose about six inches long from the reservoir to a metal pipe directly under the intercooler to intake pipe. It is secured at each end with the "squeeze" type clamps. It's well soaked with oil so I'm hoping it's just the hose.

The Parts diagram doesn't show this hose - does anyone have the part no or can I just use a suitable oil-resistant hose. I don't believe this hose is under pressure.

I'm aware there's an issue getting the right p/s oil and ATF is not recomended.

I replaced it with off the shelf silicone hose but unfortunately I can't remember the diameter.

Thanks Adrian. Good to know I don't have to hunt for an obscure part.

I've identified a suitable replacement for the mythical MS5931 fluid - Red line Power Steering Fluid. Apparently I need 2 litres of the stuff (at nearly £20/litre!) for a full flush.

I've used Ravenol PSF-Y, it's a tad cheaper and IIRC it's MS5931 compliant.

Thanks for the heads-up. It is indeed MS5931 compliant and is almost half the price of the Red Line.

I've ordered 4 litres which is probably more than I need but I won't have to worry about running out while doing a flush.

Ravenol's ATF for the 722.6 transmission is currently under £10/litre so I will bear in mind when I come to do the that.

Well I removed the intercooler intake hose to give me more room and it's all a mess of ps fluid with hardly any in the reservoir.

Syphoned out the rest of the fluid (though as I found out not all of it ).

It looked as though the hose going from the reservoir to the pump was probably the culprit. I had to slice the ends to get it off and the hose was rock hard & inflexible - couldn't see any splits though.

FYI it's 16mm ID.

All the guides I've found say disconnect the low pressure return line to flush the system into a container whilst topping up the reservoir. The only other line connected to the reservoir goes into the bottom. Surely this can't be the return line? I would have expected the return line to go back into the reservoir above the fluid level - certainly higher up than the the feed to the pump.

Does anyone have a diagram of the 2.7CRD system? The petrol versions seem to have the pump & reservoir combined instead of the remote reservoir.

For future reference Penrite PSF meets Mopar spec, and if you can get it over there so does Slick50 PSF.

Here's the steering section of the 02 WJ Diesel supplement. No pictures to speak of but the descriptions might help.
