Default Late model supertop won't fit early CJ7 (yet!)

So I thought a post 80 super top would be identical to the pre 80 CJ7 version besides the door handles... Hmmm

Well the 2 bows seem a little wider than the tub so are under a fair bit of load when I try to line up the 2nd side to fit and bolt on the tub.

It looks like the front bow sits too tall and far forward, leaving the rear of the top up high in the air too far away to tuck in. This makes the whole top sit too far forward, even at the rear top door corners..

Am I missing something?

Any advice appreciated..

heres some photos. im concerned about the raised lip on the top rear section of the windscreen. The channel if front if it sits quite low so the top is stretched over that lip... is that normal? Its been 20 years since I had CJs...

From memory mine was like that. I didn't like that, but it's how it worked. You could put some edging over it to lessen the chance of it rubbing through?

Easy way to tell is to fold the hoops back and see if they run on the raised part of the black tracking. If they go Waaay off line, then you can trim them down where they slide into each other.

Mine was a pig to put on, but a bit of fiddling and it should be right. Start at the front the the corners, then the windos then adjust/tension the bar from inside.

116gtv - post some pics once it's on. Curious to see what that CJ looks like out of the garage.
I'd assume the top would be a bastard to get on, and that the whole job might get a little fiddly ...
