My setup is similar to Numb Thumbs....I modified a module I had fitted to several previous GU Patrols......mine is held in place by a turnbuckle from under the module into a similarly modified 14mm bolt that held the spare tyre down.
My second battery sits tight behind my fridge slide but strapped to the module floor. Despite my compromises because I started with an existing module and not from scratch it has worked well and done quite some rough work in the 12 months it has existed.
Other photos of my installation and other good pics and information are in here.....

Default WK2 diesel - dual battery setup - confusion

This could be a poor man's solution? Not too bad for the money IMO, so long as the sunlight is strong you could get day after day of power.

Newbie to anything Dual. I'll setup similar to you all, but I'm going to use a Kickass($55) VSR. IS there any difference between a VSR and an Isolator? I was also looking at the Redarc Isolator 1120(I think model), but I hate the look of them as they leave everything so exposed?? Same with the projector models.

Ideally I would have loved a DC-DC charger, but I cannot justify it at this stage.

Anyway, I intend to put the battery under the spare compartment under the passengers seat as I dont have QL. I started hacking today, so I'm a little impatient to upload the hack work.

I've also placed an order for a 110Ah AGM battery which will fit the location according to the specs I read.

Will update as I progress..

What size fig 8 cables do you run?

Can anyone recommend or run through the size wiring that is correct for my application. Or correct it.

Thanks

Your fridge is quite close so 6mm twin ("figure 8") would probably suffice in practice, but I'd use 6B&S.

As for the trailer connection... it depends on what equipment you plan on using it for. I have 3B&S from the primary battery and get a very stable voltage at the 50A Anderson even when under higher electrical loads. Any larger and I reckon it'd have to be routed under the car as it was really tight on the forward edge of the rear wheelarch cable path. Plenty of people use 6B&S (or less!) and accept the loss, or fail to notice it.

Cheers,
Steve

Interesting that Kickass don't provide a resistance or voltage drop figure, nor do they elaborate on the actual type of connecting element inside. I'd put money on it being an SSR...

I've never been a fan of limited info.

Cheers,
Steve
