I got my letter but it is a pain in the bum. Seems like going to have to put DPF back on, get FCA job done, then go back for a full remap again due to the changes. Look out if you have a tune...

That sounds like an expensive option @GCDingo, be cheaper to get another fly wheel and fit it..

Hi Drover, can you describe what actually was performed,
Was it a simple drive in, laptop hooked up to OBD port and PCM reprogramed, or was there more to it, did it include the customary Test drive around the block
( which I friggin hate by the way ).

I was reading an article on the reprogramming where they hook up a battery charger to maintain voltage above 13v, so they must have to have the ignition on to enable the reprogramming/ updates to take place

Obviously a level of redundancy whereby tone wheel sensor failure is mitigated by using the camshaft sensor is great. I wonder if after reprogramming, a fault code is still stored to indicate when/if the tone wheel sensor fails?

Obviously it works just keep fingers crossed the timing chains don’t stretch too much.

Yep, from a mechanical and accuracy point of view, there is a very good reason the flywheel is used. Aside from wear in the cam chain, there have been reported cam gear slippage on the camshaft on these engines leading to catastrophic failure.

Mine just went from car park to shed then back to car park and like most software upgrade stuff on phones and laptops plug into mans, if battery runs out of steam half way through your in big trouble............

Jeez you blokes, just when I'm thinking happy thoughts you bring up cam chain stretch and cam shaft fails, doom and gloomers ................. actually if the chain stretchers it wouldn't matter where the sensor is your in strife.
