as up the powerlines in wa, most of the track and hills are done in 4 low..
I was thinking the problem was from the high speed dirt you mentioned, if so where you in 2 or 4 high at the time, afaik chipping is from wheel spin from pressures being to high so next time try dropping them a bit lower and see what happens.

I have seen this before on some of the mud terrain Coopers.

Cooper tyres are renowned for being a rather hard compound. It's the main reason they advertise such a long mileage warranty.

I would be airing down anytime off road with them. The chipping is generally caused by the firmness of the rubber compound not having enough "give" in it to be as flexible as other tyres over rocks.

Yeah i've heard coopers are always best to run lower pressure than any other tyres for this reason...

i think thats the key, just lower pressures... lower than what im use to

20-24 offroad rocky tracks

12-18 sand

30-32 onroad

thats what i think i'll follow from now on

Powerman 15 I drop mine down to 16 pounds for the power lines. Won't hurt the lower pressure will be a smoother ride. Tyres with conform to the terrain better and you shouldn't get as much wear.

I had the same thing with my MT ATZ 4-Rib after a high country trip. Easy trails, though steep, but no hard tracks. Aired down to about 24psi, which would have been fine with the smaller 245/75/17's but with the 285/70/17's it obviously wasn't low enough. 24psi would probably be low enough for fast dirt but for normal slower speed trails I drop down to 20psi straight away, and would then go lower once the going got tough.
