Default Fuel Economy Question

Hey

I have a 2005 TJ, it's about 8 weeks old with 2500km on it. I know fuel economy on the TJs is pretty lousy, but I'm currently getting less than 300km to a tank.

Is this within the normal range?

Thanks!

Julie

If its all stock then that is definately too low Julie.

How many litres do you get in the tank each time you fill it?

Thats definetly too much, are you a leadfoot???, around the city I would normally get 400-500ks out a tank 600 freeway, but i normally drive like a granny revving it to approx 2-2500rpm each gear change

even running the aircon all the time, in a stock car you should be getting between 450 to 500kms out of a tank. Take it back to the dealer and get them to check it out. Something is definitely wrong.

last time I filled it I think was around 60 litres, but I don't know how empty the tank was (I had probably done around 10 -15km after the light came on.
I'm still getting the hang of the dodgy pump-click-pump thing so I'm not sure if I'm filling it all the way.

No air-con, summer is very late to come to WA, haven't even taken the top off in the last 2 weeks.

I did ask the dealer at the 1000km check, and they reckon it's within the norm.

I need to take it back this week for a new fuel cap and a dodgy passenger door, so will ask again.

Thanks guys!

Forgot to add, yes it is stock (except for the tyres) and yes I am a leadfoot. My last car was a Clubsport, but I'm trying to change my habits

To give you an idea - stock my car would go 450 to 500kms on a tank (around 65 litres), when I moved to 31" simex ET's this changed to around 375-400 (if you have seen these tyres you'll know why). Then when I went to 33s with 4.56 ratios this has improved to around 400-425 to a tank. So, unless the tyres you have put on are square, there should be no reason why you shouldn't be doing a lot more than 300kms on a tank.
If the dealer says this is normal, then ask them why the windscreen sticker says 13l/100kms???
