As a fridgey, ive sucked in my fair share of our version (through a cigarette is the worst, i wont smoke while working now lol), and its horrible. not sure how bad or concentrated the gal welding is...
What it does is react chemically with your lungs, and produce water, in essence you drown. its really sucks lol. just something to keep in mind....

Directly no, but according to reports the calcium is supposed to effect the zinc absorption somehow and also apparently helps the recovery.
Personally in the few times I;ve welded anything gal, I firstly have ground off most of the gal, then try to do it somewhere well ventilated and start upwind. Lastly yes use a rated mask.
But most of the time I just rather use regular untreated steel
