Default First Week-end of Owning a Grand

I waited nearly 5 months for the delivery of my Grand ... lots of thinking time.

So .... the following items were fitted this week
  • Side Steps
  • Chrome dressing for armrest switches
  • Pedal kit including park brake
  • Rocker rail step protectors
  • GME UHF with remote PTT
  • Mud Mats
  • Cargo mat, and
  • Bug deflector

Just for info ... I found a way to wire the antenna without going through the firewall ....I used the hole in the A column to access the engine bay. You could use the same route for wiring lights, etc.

Taking the centre bezel off the access the centre bin was not as difficult as I first imagined ... just follow the interior dismantel instructions ... and use the right tools ... and say a prayer!!

Yet to be fitted ... nudge bar, dash cam, booster battery, roof racks, compressor and final fitting of antenna.

Just ticked over 900Kms since Wednesday afternoon .... having a ball

Regards

Rob

Busy day today.

BOSS Frankston fitted my towbar today .... fantastic service and a very professional shop (the after market shop for Bayside Jeep). The towbar price was the most competitive genuine MOPAR that I could find.

James, at BOSS, was so polite and helpful ... he also fixed my bonnet protector mounts as a courtesy.

I finished off the CB and with the help of my brother we tuned in the PTT system ... no hand held mic, just a button on the steering wheel to talk, scan, change channels or go to priority channel. The 50mm X 50mm remote speaker also fitted inside the front bin the upper level space (above the input plugs). Tried out the 2.1GB1 and 6DBi antennas ... both work fine.

The dash cam (model Mini 803) is now up an running. Fitted very nicelyup high on the driver side of the rear view mirror. Ran the wiring down the A pillar and across to the front bin and linked to the 20amp cigar lighter. Very easy install.

The underseat lighting was delivered today ... a job for more wiring and getting to know more of the interior panels too.

I'm ready for the 1,000km service and fitting the recovery hook ... when this is done I can then move onto the nudge bar.

USed the Track option on the navigator today ... I just keep finding things!!

Regards

Rob

I'm about to buy a towbar from Bayside via their ebay site, so good to know you had a good experience having yours fitted. How much did they charge you for fitting?

Hi Taprod,

The service was first rate and the fitting cost was $250 with my discount ... included wiring, 7 pin plug, and all the pieces, ball, endcap and tongue

Takes about 2 hours.

Regards

Rob

Just another update.

What a useless item that styrene foam rack is for the jack!!! So I used the vinyl bag that the tow tongue came in to store the jack and the lug wrench (used 1/4 inch foam sheet to separate then in the bag) ... Now the jack fits very nicely under the back seat. (The 6DBi antenna also lives under the back seat as well in a soft plastic tube so no vibrations. I use the stumpy 2.1DBi antenna for around the city.)

Moving the jack left the whole of the wheel well vacant. It now houses the compressor, my tool kit and the Super mini booster battery. I will likk to the rear ciagr lighter if I can discover that it wont drain the main battery ... I read somewhere the fuse can be shifted to be only on when the car is running.

Had the 1K service today ... no issues at all. BUt it is proving difficult to pair the key fobs to the seat and mirror setting (page 84 of the manual has been tried a number of times). The JA recovery hook is being replaced with the Chief one ... I went for the one with the hole rather than the bent hook as I felt it would better enable a secure line attachment Got a 4.7T D shackle at Autobarn.

I would like to apply carpet to the kick plates on the sides of the driver and passenger foot wells, and the lower sections of the doors. Went to the carpet shop ... only sell black car carpet ... my Overland has a blue/grey carpet ... I'll keep looking.

Ordered
to replace the dome lights in the foot wells

and these 3 LED sets for under the front and the rear seats.

Regards

Rob

I the grand the rear power socket is only on with the ignition by default. The cover had a picture of a key on it. You are correct the fuse (number 20 I think) can be flipped to keep it on all the time if you want. The one in the console is on all the time.
