Angry Remote key fob for 2014 grand cherokee

Help! I have lost my remote key fob for my 2014 Jeep GC Limited WK 3 and my NSW dealer wants $836 for a replacement. The car only has a push button start (no manual key). I fought and won with Jeep Australia for them to give me my 4 digit pin so I could purchase and program a fob elsewhere, but I have been unable to source one worldwide to date. Talk about holding the consumer to ransom. What a rip off!

Does anyone know a work around or where I can get a replacement remote key fob? I have attached a picture of mine for reference. The rest of the world appears to have different buttons on the remotes, runs on a different frequency and uses different scanning software.

I have approached a few locksmiths who also cannot offer a solution other than buying an original for $550 and programming it for $150 to $200.

Surely Im not the first owner to lose a key. Are we really willing to allow Jeep to rip us off like this? Not even the european keys are this expensive.

Losing the key has made me also think about when the battery in the remote goes flat. How would I start the car if I were in the middle of nowhere?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated....Thanks Danielle

Doesn't the plastic cap on the push start button come off ? to insert key to start ? i.e. couldn't you then get a new key cut for a spare.... but then you still need to unlock the car..Ummmm

Welcome to the 21st century be thankful for what you have. Some other vehicles have set keys only programmed to the ecu. Lose the key you replace the ecu and key

If the battery goes flat (or the radio link fails for any reason) you can start the car by using the non-emergency-key end of the remote to press the start button. I had to do this once as I live in an area which seems to suffer from occasional interference on the frequency used by all these short-range radio devices.
