Unfortunately I can't see it being that light being 5mm thick steel however I'd prefer to feel confident in staying crack free with all the weight on the stub axle join. I'll definitely weigh it at the end though

thats going to be 100KG+ you will need to upgrade your rear springs, as she will sit low at the back.

its already got a lift, but yeah you may be right, it already sits a little bit higher at the front and thats with a dbor bar and winch. not much extra weight can be put on the front to keep it level.

if anything though i'd prefer to lower the front a little. i think im still going to be fine for clearance on the rear with my 35's on.

i also have a rear drawer set up with probably 50kg of tools permanently in the back which doesn't help

on a side note, picked up a couple of m10 rose joints and an over centre latch today for holding the carrier shut. need to wait until wednesday to get the rest of my steel unfortunately so by the end of next week should have some good progress

purchased the 170X200mm bit of angle today (5mm thickk) for the full width of the bar. surprisingly felt like it weighed quite a bit less than expected. i expected to really struggle to pick it up. but im having a stab of around 25kg all up for that piece. soim going to have a stab of ~70kg all up for tyre carrier and bar, however i could be wrong until i weigh it.

another update.

got quite a bit done tonight.

removed my original mopar tube bumper and spare tyre which fouled on the new bar.

checked fitment of my mounting points. they are 50X16mm plates. obviously way too long at the moment, but i'll get the bar in position, mark it and then cut it down to length with an additional 20mm hole for recovery points.

started putting all the side pieces and everything on it, everything seems to line up well, except is currently fouling on the standard mud flap brackets which shouldn't cause too much issue. tomorrow i'll remove them and make sure i have plenty of clearance to the tyres. i've designed the carrier around 37" tyres and ill do the same with the bar, however currently only have 35" tyres and don't plan on any bigger with the 2 door.

clearance seems to be good though. should have just a few mm clearnace to the lip of the rear tailgate.

no tossing up whether to leave it just a straight angle iron or have a tyre cutout which will purely be for looks. as i think leaving it a straight 200mm tall piece will suite mounting my number plate and also a reverse camera flush mounted above.
