Default Engine Cutout offroad

I went out with the boys to a 4x4 park which had some pretty challenging tracks. During one very steep rutted track with a step up at the top i found the engine would just stall and die on me with no warning.
The track was loose shale type rock so i had to get some speed up to try and make it up, the traction control was more aggressive than i would have liked and tended to make me lose momentum, i more than likely didn't choose the correct settings but what did concern me was the engine cutting out and then having to fight the steering as the car slid backwards until i got it restarted. This happens a few times.
Anyone else experience this before and is there a fix for it??
I was in 4Low at the time and from memory it was rock setting.

2014 Laredo diesel with CRDSTU lift.

Other than that the Jeep performed fantastic and kept up with some heavily modified patrols and cruisers.

No that is quite normal what you experienced. It's a protection mode if it senses too much wheel slippage ( between all the wheels) it's act's to stop the wheel overspeeding (when loss of traction or in the air)then when the wheel contacts or gets grip & breaks a CV, AXLE,T/Case etc. You said you selected ROCK Mode which with air suspension raises the vehicle to maximum height, therefore it has NO/LITTLE wheel articulation & lifts wheels & triggers protection mode.

Try using OFF ROAD 1 & see how it goes.

I don't think engine stalling/cutting out is normal in any mode though.

In off Road it is, I have had it happen 3 times hence why I know. After reviewing the video we knew why. The computer keeps shutting down injectors to reduce power. I went back & drove the hill in a lower suspension setting & made it.

It would be a very dangerous feature if the engine cutting out is normal in off road situations. I've not heard of it happening before.

Mate if your pushing it hard enough it it will keep throttling back until it does. Don't believe me... go try it!

I've not used mine that hard mate, though plenty of wheel lifting on steep tracks and compared to my previous WJ you are definitely fighting both the terrain and the vehicle in the case of the WK2. It certainly has some issues off road, like not holding gears on steep descents but I have not previously heard of the engine cutting out/stalling. You'd think the hard core users and off road product manufacturers like Uneek, Chief & Murchison would have mentioned it, as well as the many off road reviews.
