Hi. My name is Rod from Adelaide.

I don't own a Jeep yet but am hoping to rectify that a little later in the year. I have, over the years had a procession of MQ, GQ Patrols and a few FJ Landcruisers. It's time for an update and I have always loved the look of the Wranglers.

I'm looking at getting a second hand petrol JK but there are very few for sale here in SA. Will probably have to look interstate. There seems to heaps of them on the east coast.

I would love to hear from members as to what I should look out for and things to avoid.

I decided on the Wrangler because, despite the vast amount of electronics in modern cars, the jeep is still that basic 4X4 (sort of) that makes little compromise to the Toorak Tractor set.

Regards,
Rod.

Love the comment "the Toorak Tractor set" , sounds like the one we used to use in Sydney, when you would refer to the " North Shore Shopping Trolley".

Enjoy the site, and i hope you find a nice wrangler, i did and love it.

Goldy9091, thanks for your reply.

What model Wrangler do you have and how long have you had it?

I'm one of those old farts that think a 4X4 should be short and sit on a pair of live axles.

The Wrangler appeals to me because it is about as basic as you can get these days. I love simplicity. That equates to reliability for me. I'm also not afraid to get my hands dirty and have always maintained and repaired my own vehicles. Not to mention the Wranglers' legendary off road reputation. It just all adds up.

I've been in the communications and IT industry for the last 38 years so the electronics and software aspects of modern 4X4s don't hold any great surprises for me.

I guess the epitome of a 4X4 for me would be an old SWB diesel GQ Patrol but the latest of them are now 20 years old and still hold a good price but are just too long in the tooth and I don't want to spend all of my weekends under the bonnet.

Regards,
Rod.
