So where did you end up getting the tie down gear from?

Got the tie down gear from ALDI of all places, not bad deal $58 for 5 tracks and tie downs. The have a heap of 4x4 stuff on special in-store at the moment (inverters, recovery tracks, High loft jacks)

I hoped to score some of those Aldi tracks but they weren't listed in the upcoming catalogues, thought these specials were national but maybe not? Hope you don't mind me reposting your pics.

No they are not in the Aldi catalogue, but are in store, if you are in Melbourne the St Kilda, Inkerman store has heaps

Default Removing Tie Down Points

Digging this up this thread, as I have broken 3 out of the 4x Cargo tie downs as well, just trying to strap the fridge in.

So you confirm what I thought, they are riveted in, right?

So if I drill out the rivets, and replace with, say, a threaded 'rivnut', I should be able to install a metal version of some sort, and be able to easily replace them after should one fail?

What I was actually thinking of doing, was modifying the broken plastic units, to have a metal loop in them, but still use the OEM plastic 'housing' for now....

Until I get a slim 100Ah lithium battery pack, and a water tank/bladder, and do the flat 15mm ply floor thing too!

These guys look good for a water bladder. Nearly went this way for a fuel bladder on my Dakar bike.

I've attached a photo of the 60L 'Pillow' version below:

Default Cargo Anchor Tie Down Points

Had a chance to go try my idea and prove the concept this afternoon. I think it will be fine.... I couldn't pull it out, and that's 120kg force!

That's 2x M5 alloy nutserts, made hot & melted into the rivet hole in the plastic floor, then 'crimped' with the nutsert tool as well. Cut off the plastic stand-offs that were on the back of the plastic tie down moulding where the rivets go through. Couple of 20mm M5 button head in oxide black... (they'll probably rust, then I'll change them for stainless). Had to grind the plastic bezel a bit in the middle to make the D-Ring fit, and squish the D-Ring a bit too so it would lay flat. There are probably better D-Rings out there, but I got this 4pk for $4 on sale.

Lays flat when not used:

Well below the hard liner:

And plenty of D ring to get anything through. My fat finger fits!

Now if someone could only tell me....WHAT'S THIS FOR?

Nice tie down mod, the factory ones are a joke. The hole with the thread at the back is a mod done by the previous owner, never seen it before. Maybe it has something to do with the tyre carrier as a guess?

Thanks. Thought it might be custom. It's just that little box symbol cast into the factory plastic there made me think it was 'something'. I'm guessing Fridge slide or something like that....it's on the right side if that wasn't clear from the photo. (Tyre carrier is on the other side - left.)
