Auto box
So I was driving hom from Don Mueng tonight to Ban Pong, doing 100kmh, and the revs would jump to 6000rpm and the car would slow, then it would come good again until I tried to go faster, I am thinking the clutch plates in the auto are about to or are failing.
What's the brains trusts thoughts?

Sounds like clutch packs it its slipping that bad.
Before whacking new packs in, some recommend checking the fluid level, and replacing the filter/fluid first. Also, the TPS apparently has a bit to do with the gear selection/slipping. You also have the TV (throttle valve cable) to adjust.
I would do the simple options first..
Luckily you live in a country with lower labour costs.
I guess if the tranny doesnt come good with the smaller suggestions, then a box from a lower k's wrecked Jeep will be on order.. or a rebuild.
As you know, in Oz, i don't think you would get much change from 2K. Hopefully in Thailand it would be much, much cheaper..

might try and source a 2nd hand TPS first. was annoying. was driving at 110, then engine over reved and speed dropped to 80, then went again, providing i was only gentle on the throttle.
Defo wouldnt be rebuilding the auto, would only replace with 2nd hand.
I did adjust the kickdown, helped momentarily then 5 min later played up again.

Clutch packs, fluid levels or blockage in the trans cooler are all a possibility. Same happened to my XJ many years ago, replaced the box with a low KM one for a few hundred and all was good again Turned out the clutch packs started to go, blocked the cooler and it was all over.
Cheers

I am going the cheap option first with a genuine TCM and see if that can fix it, rumours are that it has a bearing on the shift points and lock up of the auto.
If I need to replace the auto, yeah will be same thing, cheap low km one dropped in, why waste money rebuilding.

Disconnect the solenoid harness on the side of the transmission.
Then drive it again, you will need to shift manually. If the problem is still present, then trans is toast.
If it does not then problem is external to the trans.

Ok new TPS in it, now the idle is high and the shift problem is worse.
