Death wobbling piece of s#$t

Blame the bean counters, we just found the answer to a problem we have been having over the last 2 years, when our garage doors got wet while in transport they were rusting like crazy, turns out the cheap money saving chinese cardboard we have been using on the new purchasing managers initiative has been leeching a stack of chlorine onto the colourbond when it got wet.
You would not believe the amount of time we poured into engineering changes and fixes and door storage, while everyone was saying "this wasn't an issue a few years ago"
Money saved on cardboard, $10k, money lost on door damage around $30k no wonder the country is going down the gurgle, this clowns just make these decisions, no one knows untill suddenly one afternoon the machines go crazy because the sensors aren't always seeing the white cardboard instead of the brown and we have 5 shipping containers of the new and none of the old, then the original supplier who supplied us for 5 years beforehand tells us they stopped making that cardboard because we stopped ordering it and haven't got the equipment anymore to do it.

Excuse me for my ignorance.. But what are death wobbles?

My JK vibrates through the steering wheel when I drive over a pot hole etc. Do not have to be traveling at speed but around 40 - 50 k seems to be the average.


Is this what people are talking about?

I think everyones probably gives a bit of shake when hitting holes or big ridges - we used to call that Scuttle shake in the old days on converitbles its exactly the same feeling.

I think the Death wobbles means the steering oscillating uncontrollably and unstoppably until you either slow down or power out of it

Along with what MCJK and BrisNut have said, why don't you forget about the dealers and take it to a TRUCK alignment specialist with a print out of what your alignment is meant to be?

They will tell you pretty quickly what is wrong (or be able to find a solution to your wobbles). Normal wheel alignment places are hopeless when it comes to solid axle vehicles. Half the pricks don't even have the laser gear which fits over the 32" tyres which come standard on alot of 4wds these days!

that sounds more like steering shimmy to me. DW is more when you wheels start to shake violently and you have little or no control over the steering.
It hasnt affected us all but some it has. I have yet to experience a DW and trust that it will stay this way

I doubt anyone that's has real DW would try to drive through it - but your description is dead on the money....

Yah no way I would even consider accellerating as it felt like the front end was about to grenade itself on my GQ, I'm sure the whole front axle was fumping left and righ an inch or 2 trying to get out from under the vehicle, and it was easily fixed by just a wheel balance.
Accelerating might work with a trailer sway situation but not a DW, it would seem like suicide. Though I have had one on that got worse with braking which turned out to be warped disc rotors on my Valiant.
