Default Anybody here have practical knowledge on TPMS on WK2 MY14

Hi Guys, had an issue with my TPMS on the front passenger wheel (MY14 JGC Overland) whilst driving at 100Km on highway, alarm went off and showed I had no air in tyre so quickly pulled over to check, the tyre was full.

So it looks like the TPMS has an issue. I read that there are some TPMS reset devices that may be able to help, has anyone used one? I was thinking that a reset may fix it and as the devices are about $50 it might be a cheap fix.

I rang up my Jeep dealer and they want about $130 for the sensor plus about $150 to fit it. So I asked if I could fit another Jeep sensor say from a Larado or other model to it, to which they replied no, as they are model specific, something to do with frequencies.

Anybody know if they are feeding me a story and are trying to make me bend over or not?
Thanks.

I might be wrong, but Frequencies my arse,So in other words what Jeep is telling you they have a different Sensor for every variance of every GC.
Bet you a dollar to a pound if you give them the job they would go out to the parts bin and grab a sensor and convince you it is specifically meant for your Overland !!!!

I,m sure there are people on here who have more knowledge on the subject than me. especially those who have purchased alloys off a Limited or Overland and installed them on a Laredo or vice versa, installed 18" alloys from a Laredo to replace the 20" alloys on the Overlander, (which have the OEM Sensors still installed) to go bush in. Might only be a flat battery with in the sensor.

I would wait and give it time for everyone else to jump on board and give their first hand experience/ knowledge on the subject before parting out big coin

swap the front wheels (left to right etc) and if the issue moves with the wheel (now fault on the drivers side) its probably a wheel sensor if fault remains on the passenger side you may have a faulty receiver not the sensor.

A TPMS reset device is a waste of time as the Jeep system is self learning.

If you pay more then $40 to get a sensor fitted you are being ripped off, my local tyre fitter charged me just $20 a month ago, took them about 15min to do it while I waited.

The reply regarding different frequencies for different models is BS, BUT they did change the frequency use by all GCs in 2017 (I think). You can buy four new sensors off eBay for less than the price of 1 from a dealer - I did this when I moved to 18s and they're still going strong 18mo later

Thanks for the info guys, I will swap the front wheel and see if that makes a difference first, and then look at ebay for replacement TPMS.

Clarky, when you say "self learning", do you mean that once I replace the sensors and go for a drive the system will automatically detect the new ones or do I still have to program the individual sensors?

The system will pick them up after a short drive mate.

Yep, they all self learn, I can program in the Individual ID just to save the auto relearn. Re your MY14, the battery life has just ended so you get -.- on that tyre. There is nothing special or dark arts involved.
